Sen. Murphy: NYT Column Will Make Trump More Paranoid

By    |   Thursday, 06 September 2018 03:01 PM EDT

Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., says the unnamed senior official in the Trump administration who authored the controversial New York Times’s column could wind up making President Donald Trump even more paranoid.

The columnist said some administration officials are "working diligently from within to frustrate parts of (Trump’s) agenda and his worst inclinations.”

But Murphy, in a Thursday interview on CNN’s "New Day," said: "I’m not sure how (the column) actually solves the problem that this person is identifying,"Murphy said. "Frankly, if your concerned about the stability of the president or the stability of the nation, I’m not sure why you prick him in the side, make him even more paranoid and up, perhaps, having a purge inside the White House of anyone he suspects to be connected with mainstream Republican causes.

"This seems more like someone trying to protect the job interests of those inside the administration who want to work in Washington after this disaster is over. I’m not celebrating the authorship of this piece, also because it’s not terribly surprising. We have plenty of other reporting that tells us this president is paranoid, that he’s unstable, that he has to be managed on a daily basis…"

And he added: "This probably just makes the situation inside the White House even worse."
