North Korean leader Kim Jong Un would not perform military action that could end his regime, Rep. Charlie Dent said Friday.
"I don't think he (Kim Jong Un) will take any actions that will lead to the downfall or demise of his regime," the Pennsylvania Republican told CNN.
However, North Korea intends to bombard the South Korean city of Seoul, Dent said. "It's a real threat…. We have to be very vigilant. The status quo is unacceptable. This notion of strategic patience has not been effective," the congressman added.
Attacking South Korea, said Dent, would have a negative outcome for Kim and "I do not believe they would necessarily launch a conventional attack against South Korea, because that is a conflict they would lose."
Dent just visited South Korea to work on a plan to move U.S. troops out of the range of artillery fire.
"The South Koreans have heard this before. I think they are a little bit less alarmed than we are," Dent added.
