President Donald Trump's joint address to Congress on Tuesday night was a much brighter version of his inaugural address and would have served him much better if he had used it Jan. 20, conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer said.
"This is without a doubt his best speech," Krauthammer told Fox News afterward. "That should have been his inaugural address. It might of had an effect on the launch of his presidency and vastly reduced hysteria that has emerged in the country on the left."
Trump's inaugural address instead focused on "carnage in America," he noted. "It was dark."
And though it presented radical ideas, "it scared a lot of people," Krauthammer said.
"This was a version of Trumpism done in a sober way," Krauthammer said, "made to be not offensive."
Trump will succeed if he can continue in the same tone, he added.
