As President-elect Donald Trump prepares to take office, a centrist think tank is launching a $20 million campaign to help Democrats reach out to voters who have left the party.
According to Politico, Third Way was slated to launch "New Blue" on Tuesday. Its actions will include researching what went wrong in the Democratic Party during the presidential election through polling, on-the-ground reporting, and more.
The effort is designed to provide the Democratic Party a glimpse into what happened and how it can repair itself before the next presidential election in four years.
Third Way president Jonathan Cowan told Politico the project will also take a look at the dozen Democrats who won congressional races in the same districts Trump beat Hillary Clinton.
"We want to study how did they win, and how can you scale it up," said Cowan, who worked as a White House aide in former President Bill Clinton's administration.
"The task is now how do you restore Democrats as a national party that can win everywhere."
Third Way joins a host of other left-leaning groups who are trying to get a handle on what exactly went wrong in the Nov. 8 election. One group is even trying to form a liberal version of the conservative tea party.
South Carolina Democratic chairman Jaime Harrison told CNN his party has a lot of rebuilding ahead of it.
"Listen, the DNC is now a weaker organization coming out of this election than it was going into it," Harrison said. "The question is how do you get it back on track? We're in the ditch — how do we get it out of the ditch and then back on the road?"
Former Attorney General Eric Holder, meanwhile, will lead an effort to examine the nation's map of congressional districts. Republicans currently control both houses of Congress.
