Fox News host Tucker Carlson says Drudge Report founder Matt Drudge was once "one of the most influential figures in conservative news journalism," but now, he is "firmly a man of the progressive left."
"His self-titled Drudge Report broke news and set priorities in digital media," Carlson said Friday night during an interview with Matthew Lysiak, the author of the upcoming book "The Drudge Revolution," which will be released Tuesday, reports The Hill's Joe Concha. "But if you've seen The Drudge Report recently, you know that it has changed dramatically, 180 degrees. Matt Drudge is now firmly a man of the progressive left. At times, his site is indistinguishable from The Daily Beast or any other woke propaganda outlet posing as a news company."
Many of President Donald Trump's supporters have become more dissatisfied with The Drudge Report's shifting direction in recent months, saying that the once-conservative site has changed after once being solidly behind the president before and after his election in 2016.
Trump himself noted the shift in April, when he retweeted a post from political commentator and conservative author Paul Sperry, commenting about Sperry's tweet that "I gave up on Drudge (a really nice guy) long ago, as have many others. People are dropping off like flies!" after Sperry called Drudge "disingenuous" for a headline saying there was "no peak yet" on coronavirus deaths.
Fox News contributor Dan Bongino, a former Secret Service agent and New York City police officer, is one of several Trump allies who have become critical of Drudge. In December, Bongino founded The Bongino Report and tweeted while announcing it that "Drudge has abandoned you. I NEVER will. Check out, and bookmark, the Bongino Report today."
Conservatives are applauding Bongino, including attorney and radio personality Mark Levin, who tweeted a call to bookmark Bongino's new website.
