Indiana Gov. Mike Pence said Wednesday night he didn't win this week's vice presidential debate. The campaign did.

"I think Donald Trump's 'Make America Great Again' vision won the debate," Pence told Sean Hannity on Fox News. "If we did any good last night, it was we were able to communicate that vision."

Pence said he spoke with Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, a couple times after Tuesday's showdown with Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, Democrat Hillary Clinton's running mate.

Pence, a longtime politician who served in the House for 12 years before being sworn in as governor in 2013, said he is "honored" and "humbled" to be part of the Trump campaign.

"I'm just so honored to stand with Donald Trump in this campaign," Pence said. "He was exited about [the debate], I was humbled by his encouragement. We're just gonna put our heads down and work together to drive that message. . . . and really the failed policies of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama."

Pence added if Trump wins the presidency, he will draw on his business sense and hire the best people to work in his administration.

"There's no question the way he's led in business is because he has the capacity to draw around him men and women of enormous character and ability," Pence said, adding Trump would hire a team comprised of "men and women of extraordinary integrity, extraordinary intellect."
