California’s attorney general is putting together a lawsuit against the Trump administration’s proposal to roll back vehicle emissions standards put in place during the Obama administration, The Hill reported.
Xavier Becerra and 19 other state attorneys general, including Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C., will file the lawsuit, said Becerra’s spokesperson, The Hill reported.
“The Trump administration has launched a brazen attack, no matter how it is cloaked, on our nation’s Clean Car Standards. The California Department of Justice will use every legal tool at its disposal to defend today’s national standards and reaffirm the facts and science behind them,” Becerra said in a statement, The Hill reported.
The Trump administration proposed to free vehicle fuel economy requirements at the 2020 level and to unwind California’s authority to restrict tailpipe emissions, with the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration making the joint proposal Thursday.
