Reporter Ejected From Shaheen Press Conference

By    |   Thursday, 23 Oct 2014 07:12 PM

A Breitbart reporter says he was booted – without explanation – from an "open press" campaign event for New Hampshire Democratic incumbent Sen. Jeanne Shaheen.

Writing about the incident, Matthew Boyle said that after he'd signed into the Wednesday event, he was directed to the back of the room, where other reporters were already gathered.

But when he got there, a staff member and the owner of ReVision Energy, a local renewable energy company that hosted the event, asked Boyd to leave because the event wasn't open to the public.

Boyle disagreed.

"The event was open press, meaning reporters from various credentialed media outlets were invited to attend," he wrote. "It was advertised on Tuesday afternoon—more than a full day beforehand—as a 'press conference' in a release from Shaheen’s campaign."

"The owner and Shaheen campaign said that didn’t matter, and they proceeded to say this reporter needed to leave," he added.

Boyle said he left "without incident."

The League of Conservation Voters, a liberal environmentalist group, endorsed Shaheen at the event. Other reporters covering the news included New England Cable News journalist Katherine Underwood, Boyle said.

Shaheen’s campaign didn't respond to emails and phone calls for comment, Boyle said.

But New Hampshire Republican Party Cairwoman Jennifer Horn told Breitbart news Shaheen’s campaign’s decision to kick out Boyle was unacceptable – and shows she’s in trouble.

"Jeanne Shaheen has avoided town hall meetings with her constituents because she is desperate to avoid questions about her record of voting with President Obama 99% of the time,” Horn said in an email to Breitbart, Boyle said.

"Now she is avoiding reporters because she doesn't want to answer questions about her disastrous debate performance. Shaheen continues to thumb her nose at New Hampshire's tradition of open and honest government."

A new poll Thursday showed how tight the race is between Shaheen and GOP challenger Scott Brown.

The CNN/ORC International survey finds Shaheen leading Brown 49 percent to 47 percent among likely voters. The margin of error is plus or minus 4 percentage points.
