At least one Republican was watching Paul Ryan's extended interview on a TV network Thursday morning, and he wasn't impressed with what the House speaker had to say about the president working across the aisle.
Sen. Bob Corker took issue with Ryan telling the "CBS This Morning" program that he doesn't want President Donald Trump working with Democrats on healthcare.
Corker, an early supporter of Trump during election season and one-time candidate for secretary of state, took to Twitter:
The Tennessee Republican released a statement last Friday, after House Republicans pulled their American Health Care Act legislation because of lack of votes within their own party, vowing to do whatever was necessary — including working with Democrats.
"I had a nice talk tonight with President Trump," said Corker. "At some point, on behalf of the American people, we have to resolve the issues that are driving up costs, limiting choices, and causing the individual market to spiral downward. I stand ready to work with the administration and my colleagues on both sides of the aisle in order to fix our broken health care system."
That stands in direct contrast to what Ryan said Thursday on CBS.
"This is a can-do president, who is a business guy, who wants to get things done," Ryan said on CBS. "I know that he wants to get things done with a Republican Congress ... I worry we'll push the president into working with Democrats. ... that's hardly a conservative thing."
