Former president Bill Clinton has been on the campaign trail rallying disheartened Democrats in Southern states, but it is a future campaign that has him minding his words, reports USA Today.

Speaking at a U.S. Conference of Mayors conference on community policing, Clinton addressed some of the perks of being a former president, as well as the downside of being the husband of a potential 2016 presidential candidate.

“The great thing about not being president anymore is you can say whatever you want, unless your wife might run for something," he said.

The conference was held at Clinton's presidential library in Little Rock, Arkansas.

When he was not teasing a Hillary Clinton presidential run, Clinton pressed the need for sentencing reform and briefly touched on the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.

“We know that if we have a situation where the law enforcement community and the government generally is inclusive and represents all elements of the community and connect – we’re more likely to make good, decent decisions and less likely to make big, bad mistakes,” Clinton said, according to MSNBC.
