Rep. Biggs: Biden's COVID Package Won't Have Much Debate

Now that the Senate has passed its budget resolution to allow passage of President Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion COVID relief package without support from Republicans, there won't be much debate on it before it passes the House, Rep. Andy Biggs said Friday.

"We'll just go through the process," the Arizona Republican told Fox Business' "Mornings with Maria." "We're not going to have committee hearings on it; we'll go through it and they'll throw it on the floor. We might get some debate, but it won't be a very lengthy debate and it's likely going to pass."

Biggs added that he doesn't feel "real good" about the bill because it does not limit help to just COVID relief, but expands to bailouts of blue states and more.

"It's $1.9 trillion and it's going to have a direct payment to people in it," he said. "If you support that kind of thing, then this is for you ... don't forget we still have hundreds of billions of dollars that have never actually been distributed from the last two coronavirus relief packages."

Biggs also spoke out about reports that Border Patrol agents are releasing asylum-seeking immigrants into the United States because Mexico refuses to take them back and that Texas has become the first to sue the administration over adhering to immigration law.

"The federal government wanted control over the immigration laws," said Biggs. "Now they want to stop enforcing those laws ... the result of it is already we're slammed at the border."

He added that there are now "3,000 people a day" crossing the border, but now the Biden administration is back to the former catch-and-release program the government had before.

"What you're going to see is back to 2019 where we had over 450,000 family units apprehended and released into our interior with just a piece of paper saying come back on a certain date, maybe two years from now," said Biggs. "Those people never come back. They're lost into the interior. And what brings them here is this incentive package of President Biden and he's basically promising amnesty to everyone who comes into this country illegally. And that's an incredible draw."
