Lagging in the first four states, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., faces a daunting uphill climb, particularly since she trails current delegate leader Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., in polling for her own state, according to the latest Suffolk University poll.

The poll results:

  1. Sanders 24.2%.
  2. Warren 22.2%.
  3. Mike Bloomberg 13%.
  4. Pete Buttigieg 12.4%.
  5. Joe Biden 11%.
  6. Undecided 8.6%.
  7. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., 5%.

Warren is within the margin of error of 4.4 percentage points, making it a virtual or statistical tie, but having failed to make a dent before Super Tuesday, March 3, her campaign would need a big victory in her home state. Sanders, having soundly defeated her in bordering New Hampshire, is closing in on holding the progressive vote in the Democratic primary process.

"We in Massachusetts kind of owe her our vote — you know, favorite daughter," Jon Weissman, 73, told The Boston Globe.

Massachusetts is one of 14 states to hold their primary Tuesday, including large delegate states California and Texas.

"It comes down to not who is winning how many states, but how many delegates you are getting in each state," Boston City Councilor Michelle Wu, who has endorsed Warren, told the Globe. "There's not a must-win state for anyone."

In a deep blue state of Massachusetts, and polling Democrats and independents, it is noteworthy the poll found just 44% believe President Donald Trump would not be re-elected. Over 42% replied "yes" when asked if "In your gut, do you think Donald Trump will be re-elected?"

There are still 13% undecided, making it a majority doubting whether any Democrat can defeat Trump in November.

The polled surveyed 500 Massachusetts likely voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.
