Ex-White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon called on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate how the FBI was “weaponized” against President Donald Trump during his 2016 campaign.
In an interview Sunday on ABC News’ “This Week,” Bannon called the Office of Inspector General’s report on the FBI handling of Hillary Clinton’s private email use uncovered a “shocking” bias by investigator Peter Strzok and lawyer Lisa Page.
“The Attorney General of the United States, Jeff Sessions, good friend of mine, on Monday, he's got to put a special prosecutor on this,” Bannoon said. “And that special prosecutor ought to call for a grand jury.”
And if Sessions does not, Bannon said, Trump “as chief law enforcement officer of the United States … ought to tell the Attorney General this is not a coverup. This is to unearth a coverup. This is to get sunshine and accountability in the process — this IG report is just the beginning — a full and thorough vetting of what went on.”
Bannon also said Trump “tomorrow should direct [Deputy Attorney General Rod] Rosenstein, order him within 48 hours, he will comply with every subpoena of documents and witnesses to Capitol Hill to all five committees. And if he does not do it in 48 hours, he’s fired.”
According to Bannon, “with the exposure of all this, as we go into it, we’re going to get into the … foundation of the entire [special counsel Robert] Mueller investigation.”
