President Donald Trump is obsessed with traditional media and spends hours watching the top cable TV shows, listening to New York radio and reading major newspapers like the New York Times and the New York Post, Axios reports.
He's so consumed, say aides, that they have talked of making sure his schedule is jam-packed to keep him away from watching TV or reading newspapers.
He doesn't like long briefings or reports and doesn't read many books – his favorite TV shows, according to aides and friends who spoke with Axios – are "60 Minutes," "Meet the Press," "Morning Joe," "Fox & Friends" and, before he ran for president, "Access Hollywood" when Billy Bush was the host.
"He's so old-school that he thinks it's awesome to go on '60 Minutes," a friend told Axios. "He loves being one of Barbara Walters' '10 Most Fascinating People' of the year."
When Trump was in New York, he would get print copies of the New York Times, the New York Post and the Wall Street Journal, although he would only skim the WSJ. A friend told Axios that he considered the New York Post "the paper of record for him."
Trump has had an odd relationship with the press. Axios reports that he memorizes the journalists who write about him – and how they write about him – and can later on reiterate how that reporter treated him. He has battled on Twitter with media outlets and has called reporters out in press conferences and on his campaign for what he perceives as poor treatment.
