Republicans swept a weekend Morning Consult poll of the 10 most popular governors in the United States, and Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, who came in at eighth place, said it confirms leaders from his party are solving problems and answering needs.
"In Arkansas' case, we have lowered taxes," Hutchinson told Fox News' "Fox & Friends." "[It is] the biggest income tax cut in Arkansas history."
In addition, Hutchinson said 60,000 jobs have been created since he became governor, while regulations have been reduced and people have been moved from Medicaid into the workforce.
"Those are things that the people like, and I think when Republican governors have that philosophy . . . they solve problems and the people like it," he added.
Hutchinson said he ran on including computer coding classes in all high schools, and since then, programs have been put into middle schools and into some lower grades, and as a result, the state leads the nation in computer science education.
"That's the skill that our students need for the future's jobs," Hutchinson said. "It also brings technology companies Arkansas while supporting existing industries, such as Walmart."
The most popular governor, according to the poll, was Charlie Baker of Massachusetts, with a 69 percent rating. Rounding out the list were: Larry Hogan, Maryland; Kay Ivey, Alabama; Phil Scott, Vermont; Matt Mead, Wyoming; Brian Sandoval, Nevada; Gary Hubert, Utah; Hutchinson; Greg Abbott, Texas; and Dennis Daugaard, R-S.D., 59 percent.
However, eight of the 10 least popular governors in the United States were also Republicans, with former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie coming in as the least favorite governor in the country.
The others at the bottom of the list were Dan Malloy, D-Conn.; Sam Brownback, R-Kansas; Mary Fallin, R-Okla.; Susana Martinez, R-N.M.; Bill Walker, I-Alaska; Bruce Rauner R-Ill.; Paul LePage, R-Maine; Scott Walker, R-Wis. Rick Snyder, R-Mich., 47 percent.
