The House must consider all options to stop the Trump administration from pushing through a nominee to the Supreme Court to fill the vacancy left by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, including seeking the impeachment of President Donald Trump and Attorney General Bill Barr, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said over the weekend, Fox News reported.
Asked if she would back renewing talks of impeachment hearings against the president or Barr as a time-buying measure, the New York Democrat said at a press conference that there has been “an enormous amount of law-breaking in the Trump administration … [and that Barr] is unfit for office and that he has pursued potentially law-breaking behavior,” according to the New York Post.
She added, “That being said, these are procedures and decisions that are largely up to House Democratic leadership. But I believe that also we must consider, again, all of the tools available to our disposal, and that all of these options should be entertained and on the table.”
Ocasio-Cortez delivered a message to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, saying “We need to tell him that he is playing with fire [for his desire to bring any nomination to the Senate for a vote before the election]. We need to make sure that this vacancy is protected, that our election continues and that the American people have their say.”
To that end, she urged Americans to call Republican senators and pressure them into holding off on a vote, saying “This is one of the most important times that we have had for everyday people to stand up … We all need to be more courageous and act in unprecedented ways to make sure that our rights are stabilized.”
