Calling Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein a "good guy," fired White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci said President Donald Trump should not deliver the same fate to Rosenstein, who is leading FBI special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russia's meddling in the 2016 election.
"Rod Rosenstein was in my section in law school – and he's a great guy – and I would tell the president if I was in his presence, do not fire him," Rosenstein told ABC's "This Week" with George Stephanopoulos.
"He'll be fair and impartial. You may be upset about the politicization of what happens, but I don't think it came from [Rosenstein], and give him a chance to sort this thing out with the rest of the Department of Justice."
Scaramucci, who was subjected to his own controversial ouster from the administration last summer, reiterated the president has authority to fire politicized members of his Justice Department – like former FBI Director James Comey – but expressed support for Rosenstein in his role in leading the special counsel after the recusal of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
"I don't know James Comey, but I know Rod Rosenstein," Scaramucci told ABC's panel discussion. "He's a good guy. I hope the president doesn't fire him."
