Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, on Wednesday hit out at Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., for dismissing bipartisan legislation providing relief for the economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

"We really tried to come to a middle ground and we got tired of waiting, frankly. And I don't understand what the Majority Leader's problem is," King, who joined with four Republicans and four Democrats to deliver the $900 billion legislation, told CNN the day after McConnell announced his preference for a much smaller bill.

King added that McConnell has "gotta listen and I'm hoping he's gonna listen to the members of his caucus saying, 'Look, we need to do something. It's urgent.'"

He noted that many Americans will soon be “losing” their federal benefits and "their places to live" due to eviction before Christmas. "Schools are going to have really serious problems. We've got to do something and we've put forward a good faith effort to make that happen."
