Sen. Rubio: Americans 'Got What They Voted for' in Trump

CBS's "Face the Nation"

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., called "drama" in the White House "different from anything we've confronted," suggesting Sunday the Trump administration would "benefit" from better ways that avoid "unnecessary friction."

President Donald Trump's White House "is not much different from the campaign," Rubio told host John Dickerson on CBS's "Face the Nation."

"I don't know why people are shocked," he said. "This president ran an unconventional campaign, and that's what the American people voted for. . . . People got what they voted for. It's in the best interest of the country to try to help him succeed."

But he echoed Sen. Mitch McConnell's, R-Ky., call for "less drama" in the White House.

"It's unique and different from anything we've confronted," Rubio said. "I think the White House would benefit from some systems in place that perhaps avoids some unnecessary friction points."

Yet, he said, "This is also a political environment."

"Politics are covered this way, and politicians behave in this way to get attention," he said. "It's the way politics has moved. It's not good for the country, but that's where we're headed."
