Whether President Donald Trump is capable of handling issues with North Korea is troubling to more than half of Americans, according to a CBS poll released Thursday.
Among all voters in the poll:
- Fifty-six percent say they are uneasy about Trump's ability to handle North Korea.
- Thirty-nine percent say they are confident about Trump.
Breaking down the results by party affiliation, Republicans are confident in Trump:
- Confident: 78 percent.
- Uneasy: 20 percent.
On the other hand, Democrats have the opposite feeling about the president:
- Confident: 12 percent.
- Uneasy: 85 percent.
Trump has ordered a naval strike group into the Korean sea. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has said he would either fire a missile or test a nuclear device on April 15, the 105th birthday of the nation's founder, Kim Il-sung, according to The New York Times.
In other poll results, more Americans now believe Trump is not overly friendly with the Russian government. Forty-eight percent say his approach is "about right." That result was 43 percent in February.
The poll was conducted between April 7 and April 9 among 1,006 Americans, with a four-point margin of error.
