A nonprofit group run by former campaign operatives of President Donald Trump is launching a $3 million ad blitz as a gesture of thanks to 12 GOP lawmakers who supported the failed American Health Care Act, The Washington Post reported.
America First Policies intends to praise the lawmakers through broadcast and digital media efforts as an "advocacy campaign," the Post reported.
The group intends to prop up the lawmakers for "standing with President Trump to repeal Obamacare now," despite House Republicans' inability to muster enough support to call for a vote. The legislation was pulled March 24.
The GOP lawmakers who will be rewarded for publicly backing the legislation, according to the Post:
- Gary Palmer - Ala.
- Jeff Duncan - S.C.
- David Schweikert - Ariz.
- Keith Rothfus - Pa.
- Rob Wittman - Va.
- Tom Graves - Ga.
- Scott R. Tipton - Colo.
- Thomas Garrett - Va.
- David Joyce - Ohio.
- Michael R. Turner - Ohio.
- Martha McSally - Ariz.
- Brian Mast - Fla.
The advocacy campaign will use the hashtag #ROC — Repeal Obamacare Caucus — as a way to hopefully spur a movement on social media as Republicans continue to try to piece together healthcare legislation they can pass, the Post reported.
America First Policies is chaired by GOP strategist Nick Ayers. Katie Walsh, Trump's former deputy chief of staff, and Brad Parscale, who ran digital operations for Trump's presidential campaign, are both senior advisors.
