John Ziegler: NCAA's Penn State Sanctions 'Worst in History'

By    |   Wednesday, 25 September 2013 05:41 PM EDT

The NCAA is restoring Penn State University's scholarships — stripped following the Jerry Sandusky child sex scandal — after realizing it went too far, says John Ziegler, founder of FramingPaterno.com.

"The NCAA put out the worst sanctions in the history, in the history of public sports and clearly they didn't know what the heck they were doing," Ziegler told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"They were simply reacting to the media, cheerleading with their pompoms out, intimidating the hell out of Penn State."

On Tuesday, the NCAA Executive Committee said it would begin to restore five football scholarships to the university's football program in the wake of its "continued progress toward ensuring athletics integrity."

The scholarships were taken away in the child sex scandal involving coach Jerry Sandusky that brought down Penn State's legendary head football coach Joe Paterno.

"They know that deep down they were wrong in giving these sanctions," said Ziegler, who is also a documentary filmmaker and radio talk show host.

"What they're really doing is they're basically telling Penn State, well, we're so thrilled that you did a great job of pleading guilty to crimes you didn't commit and caving in to our terrorist threats that the media helped us perpetrate on you, but we're going to reward you.
