Sally Kohn: Obamacare Is 'Smart'

By    |   Monday, 21 October 2013 05:49 PM EDT

The Affordable Care Act has been crippled by huge website glitches, but it's still a good program, says Daily Beast and Fox News contributor Sally Kohn.

"It's a disaster in that sense — [but that] does not mean the product itself is bad . . . All the government's doing is facilitating people [in their effort] to buy private insurance. That seems smart," Kohn told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

Story continues below video.

Kohn thinks there are numerous pluses in the law for Americans.

"The pre-existing-condition clause alone [is a plus] that affects massive numbers of Americans, [as well as the increase in] the number of young people who are now staying on their parents' plan," she said.

"Every American in this country who had private insurance was subject to a lifetime cap. So, now everyone has benefited. Arguably, everyone with private insurance has benefited.

"I would point out that all of these things, including the individual mandate, are supported not only by a strong majority of Americans, over 80 percent, but a strong majority of Republicans."
