Ron Christie: More Americans 'Disenchanted' With Obama

Tuesday, 18 February 2014 04:09 PM EST

President Barack Obama's declining popularity points to Americans' growing disenchantment with the commander in chief, Republican strategist Ron Christie says.

"So much of the president's administration has been about things that he was going to do, and how great things were going to be in the future," Christie told Joe Concha, guest host of "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"[Then Americans] saw how bad things actually were for them. Premiums [under the Affordable Care Act] went up, coverage went down, and a lot of people, millions of people, lost their coverage."

Christie, who worked as a member of Vice President Dick Cheney's staff, believes Democrats in some states are getting very nervous as elections approach.

"You look at the state of Minnesota ... [where] President Obama is underwater in popularity there," Christie said.

"I took the train with [U.S. Sen.] Al Franken from D.C. up to New York several weeks ago, and he's worried about his re-election, thinking that the president is so unpopular, even in a blue state, that he, Al Franken, could be in jeopardy of getting re-elected," he said.

"So that shows you how people are really disenchanted with the president and his leadership."
