Pope Francis is seeking to bridge the gap between different cultures and religions, James Mulford, publisher of ZENIT, a Catholic news agency that covers the Vatican, told "America's Forum" on Newsmax TV.
"The Catholic Church and what Pope Francis is trying to do with things like the World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro and others, is to bring together individuals, people, parents, children, friends, and that is what's going to open the door to relationships between different religions and between different countries and different [cultures]," Mulford said.
Observers have been struck by the pope's simplicity and authenticity in his brief tenure.
"He's always been a very kind, compassionate person and now that he's been elected by his fellow cardinals to be the pope, that authenticity, humility, it comes out in everything he does," Mulford said.
