Palin, Gingrich: Shutdown Not a Big Deal

By    |   Monday, 30 September 2013 11:39 PM EDT

A government shutdown is not the end of the world as we know it, some GOP pundits say.

Former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich were on cable TV Monday night proclaiming the end is not near, not matter what the media and Democrats say.

"This is not Armageddon. This is a pinprick," Palin told Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity.  The GOP leadership needs to be telling that to the public, she said.

Gingrich, now co-host of CNN's "Crossfire," told a seemingly stunned Piers Morgan,  that a shutdown isn't a big deal. He noted that Democratic House Speaker Tip O'Neill shut down the government 12 times, while it happened only twice on Gingrich's watch.

That didn't move Morgan, who promised to bring Gingrich's old nemesis Dick Morris on after a commercial break. But Morris, who worked for President Bill Clinton during the 1990s, confessed, "We were disappointed, frankly, at the lack of impact."
