Sen. Graham: Bergdahl Swap 'Stinks to High Heaven'

By    |   Wednesday, 04 June 2014 10:21 AM EDT

South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham questioned the legality of President Barack Obama's decision to release five Taliban members from Guantanamo Bay in exchange for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.

Speaking Tuesday on Fox's "On the Record," Graham called Obama's decision "unwise, probably unlawful. But, at its very minimum, it stinks to high heaven."

Story continues below video.

"He bypassed a process where the intelligence community gave input, where the Congress could have a say, because he wanted the result," Graham added. "He wanted last week to be a great week."

During the interview, Graham expressed concern that the five released Taliban prisoners would eventually make it back onto the battlefield and threaten national security.

"He [Obama] thought everybody would be cheering," Graham said. "But when we see these five guys on TV, it reminds every American that radical Islam is our enemy, and that he’s let our enemy out. And they’re going to come back killing Americans just as sure as we are talking about this tonight. The president is disconnected from the fact that radical Islam is a threat to our way of life."
