President Barack Obama's unwillingness to negotiate with Republicans shows "a shocking lack of understanding of the Constitution," says Washington Times columnist Charles Hurt.
"Also, a real cavalier haughtiness that I don't think wears well with the American people in the long run and . . . they are in charge of the purse strings," Hurt told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

Hurt said he is encouraged by indications from Rep. Peter King of New York that Republicans and Democrats may hammer out a double deal that would pass both the budget and raise the debt ceiling.
"If Peter King is right and they do begin negotiating deals that satisfy both sides to some degree, then, heck, that's a step in the right direction," he said.
