NY Post's Goodwin: Obama 'Most Radical President in Modern Times'

Monday, 09 December 2013 05:20 PM EST

The Democratic Party has changed so dramatically that it contains no more centrists, people who can agree on moderate views, says Michael Goodwin, a New York Post columnist.

"[Centrists] are the dodo birds of politics. They're extinct or darn close to it," Goodwin told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

Story continues below video.

"Whether it's [former Secretary of State] Hillary Clinton, [New York Sen.] Chuck Schumer, they've all folded their tents," Goodwin said Monday.

"Leading it all is [President] Barack Obama, who, I argue, is the most radical president in modern times. I mean he is far, far, far more liberal than George McGovern would have been in the '70s."

Goodwin says centrists have absolutely no power in the Democratic Party, as proven by the Obama administration.

"Every time [Obama] gets in a fix, he doesn't try to build a bridge to draw in the center of the country. He pushes harder on the left," he said.

"His interest is in revving up the base and in keeping the base intact, and no desire to reach across to the rest of the country."
