The media is on overkill with its extensive coverage of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's Bridge-gate controversy, Washington Times columnist Charles Hurt says.
"With Chris Christie . . . it's an important story and all," Hurt told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV, referring to the closure of key traffic lanes by Christie's top aides, allegedly for political revenge.
"But goodness, he didn't, like, murder 12 people, which is what the media coverage has been like," Hurt said Wednesday.
"You have the entire media flocking to this Chris Christie story as if – literally as if [he had] murdered his family or something."

Hurt says the White House has quietly enjoyed media coverage of the IRS scandal, in which conservative groups seeking non-profit status were targeted by the agency.
"Every time one of the stories goes out there, they're just sitting there going, 'yup, you mess with us, we'll send the dogs after you,'" he said.
"They don't care how disgusting it looks and how unconstitutional it is and what a disgrace to American freedom."
