Iran agreed to a nuclear weapons deal because the United States had the Middle East nation "on the ropes" with tougher and tougher sanctions, but Iran walked away with "everything," says retired Lt. Col. Ralph Peters, a Fox News strategic analyst.
"We were going to tighten sanctions, their economy was in the tank, and that's why they came to talk. They're just much, much better negotiators," Peters told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"[Secretary of State John] Kerry and [President Barack] Obama were so thrilled that the Iranians would talk and might make a deal with us that they got nothing. The Iranians got everything, we got nothing."
Peters, author of the Civil War novel "Hell or Richmond," said the deal does not halt Iran's nuclear program.
"They do not stop enriching uranium. They stop enriching it to 20 percent, but they still can keep enriching it to 5 percent, and it's a short jump. They do not have to dismantle a single centrifuge, not one," Peters said.
"You can't reward people just for agreeing to talk to you. This is preposterous."
