Lowry of National Review: 'Income Inequality' Makes Obama Uncomfortable

By    |   Friday, 13 December 2013 07:02 PM EST

President Barack Obama's remarks about income "inequality" hint that he doesn't like it when Americans are too well off, Rich Lowry, editor of The National Review, believes.

"That was the undertone of the speech. He, of course, would never say that explicitly, but basically having a lot of rich people offends his sense of aesthetics and his sense of justice," Lowry told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

Story continues below video.

"He went out of his way to be very tentative in trying to kind of justify the concern about the fact of inequality."

In a December 4 speech, Obama said income "inequality" to be "the defining challenge of our time."

"He suggested as though it's been established that inequality hurt the economy when it hasn't at all," Lowry said.

"In fact, there are few studies that show the rise in income in inequality is correlated in the rise in economic growth."
