Rep. Scott Garrett of New Jersey says Republicans are united in their decision to stand firm on the federal budget vote and disputes claims that tea party extremists are calling the shots.
"We are bipartisan in this … So it's not a narrow faction," Garrett, a Republican, told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
He believes Democrats are beginning to realize that they are being blamed for a government shutdown along with the GOP.

"It takes two to reach a negotiation and, so far, we've only had one, and that's the Republicans who've been passing bills, sending them to the Senate which [is] where all good bills have gone to die," he said.
"And so it's about time that this news gets out there and once the news is out there, the public will see what exactly is happening and what their president is doing to them, what their president is doing to their World War II vets, what the Senate is doing to children with cancer.
"It is terrible, but I'm glad that the information is getting to the public."
