Dr. Samadi: Virulent Spring Virus Raises Doubts About Flu Vaccine

By    |   Friday, 04 April 2014 06:15 PM EDT

A vicious spring virus is on the loose, hitting without warning, and Dr. David Samadi, chairman of Urology and chief of Robotic Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital, knows firsthand how awful it is.

Samadi said he was sidelined by a horrendous virus which forced him to bed — then when he began to feel better, it struck again.

"It hits you completely out of the blue," Samadi told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"I was doing just fine, I was doing my surgeries and you start getting this fever and chills and upper respiratory [symptoms]."

Story continues below video.

Making the virus particularly rough is that antibiotics don't work against it.

"I ended up with an IV fluid [drip]. It really weakens your system," Samadi said.

It makes him wonder about the validity of the annual flu vaccines that are given out.

"These flu vaccines that we're getting every year, how effective are they? How good [is] the technology?'' Samdai asked.

"And what percent can they predict? Certainly in my case, it didn't work."
