Washington Examiner's Ferrechio: Obama's Likeability Taking a Hit

By    |   Thursday, 31 October 2013 03:56 PM EDT

President Barack Obama's "likability" factor has taken a tremendous hit in the wake of the Affordable Care Act debacle, according to Susan Ferrechio, chief congressional correspondent of the Washington Examiner.

"You've often seen this phenomenon with President Obama in that even when people don't like what he's doing, his own personal likeability seems to be like Teflon — he survives . . . and he always is looking popular with the public," Ferrechio told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

Story continues below video.

"But the polling out today shows that his likeability is really taking a hit . . . People are starting to look at the president and say, wait, that's disingenuous or that we're not really liking the president himself."

Ferrechio believes the healthcare law's website failure is a "real danger zone" for the commander-in-chief's legacy.

"He's always been able to survive as a likeable president no matter what's going on … [but] this could really define him going forward unless his healthcare law sorts itself out and looks better for most people," she said.

"We really don't know that yet. We don't know what's going to happen with this yet . . . People are finding this thing is not affordable and that they're losing what they said they could keep, which is their doctors and their health insurance.

"That is even far more serious, far more serious than the glitch-filled rollout. It can be fixed over time. You can't fix the substance of this law over time if it's just not workable."
