Newsday's Henican: 'Crazy People' Driving Moderates From GOP

Wednesday, 15 January 2014 06:44 PM EST

Newsday columnist Ellis Henican says "crazy people" in the Republican Party have been driving moderates away.

Henican is co-author with Charlie Crist of the new book "The Party's Over: How the Extreme Right Hijacked the GOP and I Became a Democrat." Crist, the former Republican governor of Florida, is running for governor again this year — but this time as a Democrat.

"The crazy people in the last few years, extremists, real right-wing people out there, have taken over in the Republican Party," Henican told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"It's driven more moderate people like Charlie Crist away. I think it's great. I think you should drive all of the moderates away."
