Daily Beast writer Jamelle Bouie says the latest revelation about Chris Christie — that he used excessive taxpayer funds to make a post-Hurricane Sandy advertisement featuring his family — doesn't help the embattled Garden State governor.
"It contributes to a view that's always been underneath the surface with regard to Gov. Christie, that he is, perhaps, a little corrupt, perhaps there are dealings that are unsavory," Bouie told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
"A recent poll asking Jersey voters if they thought Gov. Christie has the temperament to be president, and those numbers have declined between last September and this month. So, obviously, this is taking some sort of toll on Gov. Christie's image."

But Bouie said that if an investigation reveals Christie's innocence in the ad and the Bridge-gate controversy, then "he recovers quite nicely. Voters don't really have long memories when it comes to this sort of thing."
"If in two years we are in the middle of a Hillary Clinton versus Christie [presidential] race, then maybe these things will be salient for supporters of both candidates, but I can't imagine them being particularly important to the mass of voters who aren't dedicated partisans on either side."
