John Bolton: US May Have to Make Deal With Snowden to Stop Leaks

The United States may have to cut a deal with National Security Agency secrets-leaker Edward Snowden at some point in the future to stop the flow of more damaging information, says John Bolton, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

"We don't know how much he's already given to Russia and China … or how much they've taken from him," Bolton told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"I don't doubt that he absconded with some incredibly valuable information, the release of which would be damaging to the United States beyond calculation.

"In that case, I might hate it, but I could see, possibly, the right kind of deal giving him amnesty, but I don't see those terms on the table now."

Snowden, a contractor with the NSA, fled the country and began spilling information about top secret surveillance programs, including the controversial collection of all Americans' phone and email records.

"This is a man who lied, violated solemn obligations to keep this material secret," Bolton said.

"Why should we give him any credibility at all?"
