Former National Security Council spokesman Tommy Veiter's exasperated answer when asked about Benghazi talking points last week is a prime example of the Obama administration's dismissive attitude toward an investigation into the attack, says David Harsanyi, senior editor at The Federalist.
Vietor, grilled last week by Fox News on email exchanges among officials in the wake of the 2012 attack in which Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans died, answered, "Dude, this was like two years ago."
"It's sort of a concerted effort, choreographed effort to be dismissive about the whole thing," Harsanyi told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
"[To] treat it as if it were . . . something that deserves a 'dude, you know this is nuts' kind of attitude . . . They don't want to talk about it and they don't want to get into any of the specifics."
Harsanyi, who is also a syndicated columnist, isn't hopeful that the House select committee being appointed to look into an alleged cover-up of the true facts surrounding Benghazi will get answers.
"All they're going to do is obstruct and listen. Again, that's how it works, I get it," he said.
He said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's suggestion that the committee consist of a 50-50 split of Democrats and Republicans can't work.
"If you're going to have a 50/50 committee, you're never going to get anything done. You're never going to get any answers,'' he said.
"We deserve some answers and some transparency obviously, but does anything about this administration say to you that they're going to cooperate and that we'll find out?
"Maybe the Republicans in the House will do a good-enough job digging into this investigation, because they really haven't done a great job in the other ones, in my opinion."
