Bill Richardson on His Book: Personal Ties Help Negotiations

By    |   Wednesday, 04 December 2013 06:26 PM EST

Knowing how to negotiate personally and professionally is the key ingredient of everyday living, says former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, who has written a new book on how to do exactly that.

"How to Sweet-Talk a Shark: Strategies and Stories from a Master Negotiator" focuses on the difficult conversations people must engage in day-to-day, Richardson told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

Story continues below video.

"How do you apply those difficult discussions . . . when you're talking or negotiating with your spouse, with your partner, trying to get a car loan, trying to get something done in human interactions?" Richardson said.

"You always should use a personal connection, sense of humor, know where you want to end up," he said Wednesday.

The book, which Richardson — who is also a former U.S. ambassador and secretary of Energy — wrote with Kevin Bleyer, is published by Rodale.
