O'Reilly: Reports That I Was Teen Genius Are Greatly Exaggerated

By    |   Wednesday, 21 May 2014 10:07 PM EDT

Fox News Channel host Bill O'Reilly acknowledges having a healthy ego, but he doesn't want anyone thinking he is smarter than he really is.

A Slate article on Wednesday said O'Reilly scored 1585 on his SATs. O'Reilly closed his program Wednesday night by correcting the record.

"The highest you could get on the SATs at the time I took them was 1600, so I am an unbelievable genius, right?" he asked. "Not exactly."

Story continues below video.

O'Reilly said he didn't even come close to 1585. In fact, his score was "so mediocre" that Notre Dame turned him down for admission, he said.

"I wish I had gotten a 1585," O'Reilly said. "I'd be a hedge-fund guy now, not doing this."
