Mediaite's Rothman: Gates' Dish on Obama, Hillary 'Important'

By    |   Monday, 13 January 2014 04:23 PM EST

Revelations about President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton in a new memoir by former Defense Secretary Robert Gates — criticized by some as being made too soon — are important for Americans to know, says Noah Rothman, editor of the media watchdog Mediaite.

"It's so important for American voters to know about the political nature of the president's antipathy towards both the Iraq and the Afghanistan War . . . his cabinet's antipathy, and how they made their decisions in a political fashion, which affected the lives of American troops," Rothman told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"I can't imagine how that's information that is not relevant, non-important, and critical to reveal."

Story continues below video.

Last week, Rich Lowry, editor of The National Review, was among critics of Gates' revelation that Obama and Clinton opposed troop surges in Iraq for political reasons.

He called it "somewhat distasteful," adding, "He just keeps notes for his memoir, which he pushes out the door as quick as possible to maximize sales."

But Rothman told Malzberg, "I believe that this is really critical information. Those were horrible things to reveal, if they're true."

"Right now, that's just one person's opinion, albeit a very important opinion, but if they were true, they're very damning, and it's something the American public should be aware of."
