Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-N.Y., slammed the mainstream media for its dubious coverage of President Donald Trump’s Tulsa, Okla., rally last Saturday and said at least the president wasn’t “literally stuck in his basement” like Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.
“If this was a Joe Biden rally, there would have been far fewer people in attendance. You basically had a great energy, an excellent crowd of people … they were camped out there since Wednesday,” Zeldin said Monday during an appearance on Newsmax TV’s “Spicer & Co.”
Several media outlets, including MSNBC and CNN, were quick to point out that Trump failed to fill up BOK Center despite expectations of a packed house.
The Trump campaign touted receiving over 1 million ticket requests, but there were a number of empty seats on the upper levels.
“There are multiple factors with regards to what had impacted attendance,” Zeldin said. (But) “attendance was still great. And what’s most important is that the president’s speech got to a lot of really important issues substantively that are most important to voters … all across the country and the media doesn’t want to talk about all that.
“The reality was that media was going to be criticizing crowd size no matter what the crowd size was going to be,” he added.
Zeldin also slammed the MSM for failing to discuss Biden’s absence from the campaign trail.
(They) “don’t want to talk about the reality that Joe Biden is literally stuck in his basement,” he told Spicer.
“They want to criticize President Trump for getting out there to be with the American public as November gets closer, they want to shame the president for getting out into the open really because they want to provide cover for their guy who is hiding in the basement.”
