Politicians like to keep their jobs and often do what it takes to stay in office, which includes causing gridlock on Capitol Hill, former Rep. Tom Tancredo told Newsmax TV.
During an appearance on "Newsmax Now," Tancredo told hosts Bill Tucker and Jonathan Gillam he is not even convinced Republicans control both houses of Congress even though they have the majority in each.
"Things like change, especially, I mean, it puts everybody on edge and you think, 'Well, I got here, I am here, I'm in Congress, I don't want to do anything that might change that dynamic and change might change that, and so I'll just keep doing what I've been doing; after all, I'm here, aren't I? I got elected, didn't I? So, everything's got to stay the same,'" the Colorado Republican said.
"It is a moribund institution, that's for sure."

Tancredo was then asked if the GOP could accomplish tax reform because of its majorities in the House and Senate and Republican President Donald Trump in the White House.
"If the Republicans were in charge, oh my God, think of what we would accomplish by now!" Tancredo said in jest. "Immigration reform, the end of Obamacare, yeah, tax reform, all those things would have happened. I'm waiting for the Republicans to actually take control. Hasn't happened yet."
