Time's Nickelsberg: Many Afghan Children 'Internally Displaced'

By    |   Tuesday, 26 November 2013 05:21 PM EST

Time magazine photographer Robert Nickelsberg says many of the Afghan children his new book, "Afghanistan - A Distant War," have dismayed faces because they are homeless victims of years of violence.

"There's a good chance they are internally displaced refugees, for instance, and they've been through a lot, particularly carpet bombing and being pushed out by the Soviet army or the Afghan army coming through," Nickelsberg told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"When I got there in 1988, 1 million Afghans had already been killed . . . that legacy certainly shows in their faces and then their family's daily living."
