Trading Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl for five high-ranking members of the Taliban imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay will endanger U.S. citizens and military personnel around the world, Steve Robinson, a former Navy SEAL, told
Newsmax TV on Monday.
"Every American on the planet is a potential target for ransom," Robinson told guest co-hosts Dennis Kneale and Diane Dimond on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Monday. Robinson says terror groups may now see kidnapping Americans as a means to finance their organizations.
Robinson, author of
"No Guts, No Glory: Unmasking Navy SEAL Imposters," said he agrees the United States should not have left Bergdahl in the hands of the Taliban. But he said, "there's a difference between rescue and ransom."
"Yes, we never leave a man behind. We send people in when we have the intelligence to know where a guy is, and the people in charge evaluate the risk to the men going in versus the risk of getting a guy out alive. That's a rescue."
