Steve Hilton to Newsmax: Gov. Newsom on the 'Wrong Side of Everything'

By    |   Tuesday, 03 March 2026 07:10 PM EST

California Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton told Newsmax on Tuesday that Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom can't seem to find the right place to land.

Hilton told "Ed Henry: The Big Take" that the latest example is Newsom criticizing President Donald Trump over the attack on Iran. "He's on the wrong side of everything," Hilton said. "In many ways, he's on both sides of everything, and that's the problem.

"So, in his reaction to this, of course, he's attacking President Trump."

Newsom posted his criticisms of Trump's military move against Iran on Monday.

"That's all Gavin Newsom has got these days," said Hilton, "because his record is such a total disaster.

"But even in the same post, he was careful to point out, well, we want to see the Iranian regime go. Well, how?

"What's your plan? If you want to see the regime go, but you're condemning President Trump, he's got nothing to say."

Hilton said it's a bad record to run a campaign on. "It's a pattern with Gavin Newsom. It's just like when he told our friend Charlie Kirk, Oh, he's really against biological boys in girls' sports, but then does nothing about it. That was over a year ago," he said.

Hilton said there are too many examples of failed leadership with Newsom.

"Just the other week, a vicious, evil, child rapist released from prison. That was the plan through the parole board. And Gavin Newsom says, Oh, I really disagree with it. He did nothing about it," he said.

Hilton claimed Newsom might do himself a favor at times by not saying anything. "Same here. It's talk, talk, talk, because he's totally empty," Hilton said.

The Republican gubernatorial candidate said what Newsom has done in that state shows what he would do to America.

"He doesn't have any ability to make things happen, to understand policy. That's why California is such a mess," Hilton explained. "And that's why the last thing we need is Newsom in the White House."
