CBS, Media Matters Deny Sharyl Attkisson's Bias Charges

CBS News and Media Matters for America both responded Monday to accusations of bias made by former CBS investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson.

Attkisson says some of her former bosses killed or severely edited her stories if they were critical of the Obama administration or the government in general.

She says Media Matters, a left-leaning media watchdog group, purposely targeted her for putting together those same reports. She even hinted the group may have taken donations specifically for the purpose of smearing her.

But in a statement issued to TVNewser, CBS denied Attkisson's allegations.

"CBS News maintains the highest journalistic standards in what it chooses to put on the air," CBS News spokeswoman Sonya McNair told TVNewser. "Those standards are applied without fear or favor."

Media Matters on Monday told Mediate:

"Sharyl Attkisson is continuing a pattern of evidence-free speculation that started at the end of her tenure at CBS. We have never taken contributions to target her or any other reporter. Our decision to post any research on Attkisson is based only on her shoddy reporting."

Attkisson made the accusations against Media Matters on Sunday on CNN's "Reliable Sources." She has made the statements against some of her bosses at CBS since first resigning in March. She appeared a week ago on Fox News Channel's "Media Buzz."

Attkisson is also working on a book about her experiences at CBS. It's due out in November.
