Retired Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer voiced concerns about the Biden administration's approach to national security during an interview on Newsmax's "Chris Salcedo Show," saying there are no objectives.
Shaffer criticized the Biden administration, stating that it has "no desire to actually identify specific issues, then go about doing a factual job of understanding why the issues are there and then setting up objectives, either diplomatic or military objectives, and then doing something to actually achieve those objectives."
Comparing the situation to a cinematic blend of "Police Academy" meets "Apocalypse Now," Shaffer emphasized the chaos and ignorance prevailing in the current administration's handling of national security. He warned that such an approach will likely lead to more national security failures.
According to the Middle East Institute, in contrast to his recent predecessors, President Joe Biden did not prioritize the Middle East in his overall foreign policy. The institute noted that when Biden took office in January 2021, the top issues propelling him into the White House did not revolve around the broader Middle East.
Biden's policy fundamentals reflected a departure from previous administrations, focusing on more modest goals, limited diplomacy, and avoiding overextension in the region, the Middle East Institute said.
This cautious approach differed significantly from the Trump administration's policies, which took risks in dealing with Iran and sent mixed signals about America's overall posture in the Middle East. The Trump administration had prioritized the military defeat of the Islamic State and implemented the "maximum pressure" campaign against Iran, the institute said.
Shaffer, president of Project Sentinel, echoed these concerns, stating: "So, this is what we've seen across the board. They continue to invest and reinforce failure, they're funding failure, and think about this for a second: If these guys were in charge of World War II, we would still be fighting World War II right now."
