As Scots hit the polls Thursday to decide if they will establish their own nation, independent from Great Britain, Leslie Loftis, senior contributor for The Federalist says that an
independent Scotland would be "relatively inconsequential" for the United States.
"Britain's going to have some problems figuring out where to do their naval manufacturing, where to put some of their naval bases, where to plant the nuclear arms that the Scottish don't want," Loftis told John Bachman and Francesca Page on "America's Forum" on
Newsmax TV Thursday.

"There are some serious implications for Britain, but, from the U.S. perspective, Britain has some security issues already," she explained.
However, she said that an independent Scotland would have "major implications" within the European Union.
"Nobody knows exactly how Scotland would come into the EU as an independent country," Loftis explained.
"Does it need to leave and reenter?" she asked. "Does the UK need to renegotiate as Scotland's reentry with Scotland not ever leaving?"
"Then there's the triggering," she added. "If one country leaves the European Union, does that start a domino effect?"
